Why I build local business websites with Astro
Speed, SEO and low maintenance: the case for Astro over WordPress for service businesses that live on Google and WhatsApp.
For a plumber, an electrician or a caterer, the website has one job: turn a local search into a call. After building many of these, Astro is my default.
Speed is a ranking and conversion factor
Astro ships HTML with almost no JavaScript. Pages load instantly on mid-range phones over 4G, which is exactly where local customers are.
Content at scale, without a plugin zoo
Service × city pages are just data. A single template plus a content collection generates hundreds of unique, well-structured pages, with no database and nothing to patch every week.
Structured data built in
LocalBusiness, Service, FAQPage, BreadcrumbList: generated from the same data as the page, so they never drift out of sync.
When I still pick WordPress
When the client must edit everything themselves, or needs WooCommerce. Otherwise, static wins on cost, speed and security.
